Volunteer-run · nobody draws a salary

Keep the warnings free.

WxAlerts has no ads, no data sales and no paywall on anything safety-related. It runs on about $2,020 a month, given by people who use it. If it has ever woken you up in time, this is the ask.

288 more monthly supporters and the infrastructure is fully funded. The reserve fund starts after that.

Supporter tiers

Perks, never protection

Warnings, polygons, the live map, push notifications and the apps are free at every tier, including no tier. A free account saves one place and is pushed every warning that covers it. What a gift buys is room and reach: more saved places, more people each place can reach, and SMS, which costs us real money per message.

Supporter

  • 5 saved places instead of 1
  • Push alerts on every saved place

Before you give

Will alerts ever go behind a paywall?+

No. Warnings, watches, polygons, the live map, push notifications and the apps stay free for everyone, at every tier, forever. A free account saves one place and gets pushed every warning that covers it. What a tier buys is room and reach: how many places you can save, how many people each place can notify, and SMS. Every text has a real per-message carrier cost, so texting is bundled into the paid tiers rather than subsidised by nobody.

Is my donation tax-deductible?+

No. WX Alerts, Inc. is a Florida not-for-profit corporation, but it is not a registered charity. There is no IRS tax-exempt determination, and no application pending for one. Treat a gift here as a regular contribution, not a deduction. You get an itemized receipt either way, and this page will say so the day that ever changes.

What happens if you raise more than $2,020 a month?+

Surplus goes into a three-month reserve first, so a bad month never risks an outage. After that it funds a second ingest region, a bigger SMS allowance for supporters, and the accessibility audit we keep deferring.

Can I give without a subscription?+

Yes, switch to one-time above. Recurring gifts are more useful because the server bill is recurring, but a one-time gift at any size helps.

What do you do with my location?+

The app reports your location only if you turn it on, and only so we can tell whether a warning polygon contains you. We keep the single most recent report and overwrite it, with no history, no trail and no movement log. Nobody wants that, including us. Nothing is sold or shared, and no ad network or analytics broker touches it.

How do alerts actually reach me?+

Push notification to the app on iOS and Android, and SMS on the Sustainer and Patron tiers, with an allowance of 250 messages a month pooled across every recipient on the account. Pick per saved place, because some people want a text at 3 AM for tornado warnings only and nothing else. Email is half-built: you can add an address and confirm it, but the part that sends an alert to it is not finished, so it is not sold here as though it were. Push is never counted against the SMS allowance, because cutting somebody off from a tornado warning over a billing threshold is the wrong way for this to fail.
